Who We Are

Tim Simmons
Director and FLC Founder

by Emma Keens

I think Albert Einstein would have approved of Tim. The great thinker (Einstein, that is) once said: ‘If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough’. You’ll soon discover that understanding your business, and putting your message across simply, is not just what Tim does best. After almost a decade of writing for some of the world’s leading IT and technology firms, it’s second nature to him.

Career history

From 1994, Tim held a number of positions at London’s finest PR companies, culminating in being Head of Technology and an associate board member at Weber Group. His clients ranged across the technology sector, including the likes of Sony, 3Com, Pioneer and EMC.

It was through working closely with these companies that Tim had his own Eureka moment, noticing the gap in the market for well-written, reasonably priced copy. And with his passion for writing, he knew just the person to fill that gap…

First Light is born

Not one to let a good idea go stale, Tim set up FLC in 2003. It’s a testament to his personal touch that many of his clients from Weber came on board right away – and have been with him ever since. They enjoy the fun and passion Tim brings to the table, but also recognise the difference between getting the job done and bringing the job to life.

But it is not all work, work, work. When he is not thinking about FLC, Tim is likely to be found in the gym or planning his next exciting travel adventure.

Emma Keens
Associate Director

by Tim Simmons

You’ll love working with Emma. Why? For two main reasons. First and foremost, she’s a fantastic writer with a punchy, smart style that makes for an enjoyable read. Second, Emma has the ‘sixth sense’ possessed by all good business writers: the instinct to understand quickly what you want to say and the best way to say it to ensure the right audience impact.

In short, Emma is a sharp cookie, who’s highly valued by clients.

Career history

Emma worked for a number of years as a client solutions director for CNN before deciding that she wanted to pursue her passion for writing. Typically for Emma, who you’ll gather doesn’t hang about, it didn’t take long for her to secure a job on the respected city free sheet, CityAM. Soon after, she had a seat on The Times’ City Desk: the Holy Grail beat for any journalist. She still writes features for The Times.

Emma at FLC

Emma joined FLC in 2010 to marry her love for writing with her interest in working closely with clients. She also wants to expand the services offered. As well as her core writing, Emma works alongside me on business development and has been nothing but a breath of fresh air from the moment she arrived on deck.

I should also add, Emma is great fun: you’ll love to have her working on your business. Away from the office, she is most likely to be found at a gig, spoiling her beloved cats or pounding the streets of Islington in her trainers and running kit.
